Change!!

A Letter Written in The Year 2070:

This is the year 2070

I have just turned 50, but I my appearance is of somebody of 85.

I suffer from serious kidney problems, because I do not drink enough water.
I'm afraid I do not have much time left to live.
I am one of the oldest people in this society.

I remember when I was a child of 5.
Everything was very different then.
There were lots of trees in the parks, houses with beautiful gardens and I could enjoy having a shower for half an hour.
Nowadays we use towels with mineral oil to clean our skin.

Before, women had beautiful hair.
Now, we have to shave our heads to keep them clean without the use of water.

Then, my father washed his car with water coming out of a hosepipe.
Now, my son does not believe that water could be wasted that way.

I remember there were SAVE WATER warnings on outside posters, radio and TV,
But nobody paid attention. We thought that water was to last forever.

Now, all the rivers, lakes, dams and underground water beds are either dry or contaminated.

Industry came virtually to a standstill and unemployment reached dramatic proportions.
Desalination plants are the main source of employment and workers receive part of their salary in drinkable water.

Assaults at gun point on the streets for a jerry can of water are very common.

Food is 80% synthetic.

Before, the recommended quantity of water to drink for an adult was 8 glasses a day. Nowadays, I am only allowed half a glass.

We now have to wear disposable clothing,
And this increases the amount of litter.

We are using now septic tanks,
Because the sewerage system does not work for lack of water.

The outside appearance of the population is horrible:
Wrinkled, emaciated bodies, due to dehydration, full of sores caused by ultra violet radiation, now stronger
Without the protective shield of the ozone layer.

Skin cancer, gastrointestinal infections and of the urinary tracts are the main causes of death

Due to the excessive drying of the skin young
People of 20 look like 40.

Scientists investigate, but there's no solution to the problem.

Water cannot be produced; oxygen is also degraded due to the lack of trees and vegetation, and the intellectual capacity of the new generations are severely impaired.

The morphology of spermatozoa in many men has changed.
As a consequence, babies are born with deficiencies, mutations and physical deformities.

Government makes us pay for the air we breathe,
137 m3 per day per adult person.

People who cannot pay are expelled from the "ventilated zones",
With huge mechanical lungs driven by solar power.
The air is not of good quality, but at least people can breathe.

The average life expectancy is 35 years.

In some countries, where there are still some green zones
Crossed by rivers, these are guarded by heavy armed soldiers.

Water became a very coveted treasure, more precious than gold and diamonds.

Where I live, there are no trees, because it seldom rains.
When it happens to register some precipitation, it is of acid rain.

The seasons have been severely affected by the atomic tests and by contamination from the 20th century polluting industries.

We were warned to look after the environment, but nobody cared.

When my son asks me to talk about my youth,
I tell him about the green fields, the beauty of the flowers, the rain, how pleasant was to swim and fish in the rivers and dams, to drink all the water we could and how healthy people were.

He asks: “ Daddy! Why there is no water? “

Then, I feel a lump in my throat!

I cannot help feeling guilty, because I belong to the generation who contributed to the destruction of the environment or simply did not take into account all the warning signs.

Now our children pay a very high price!

I sincerely believe that within a short time life on earth will not be possible, as the destruction of nature reached now an irreversible stage.

How I would like to go back and make mankind
Under stand ...that we still had time to save our
Planet Earth.

Maybe some of you have read that letter in a magazine, or from an article in the internet.
Frightening isn't it ?
Maybe you're laughing outside after read that letter .
But it isn't impossible you know?

Water crisis is becoming more serious year after years.
We are running out of clean water.
The only water we need to drink is polluted.
1,1 billion people lack access to clean water. That's approximately 1 in 6 people in Earth.

A person can live weeks without foods , but only days without water.
Water related illness is the leading cause of death for children under age of 5. Every 15 seconds a child dies from a water related disease.
There are more people that die from water related illness than people who die from AIDS.

" Filthy water cannot be washed " -- African Proverb

The world wide water shortage affects everything, leading to environmental and agricurtural crisis.

Two - thirds of the Earth is covered with water. But 98% of the water is salt water. Less than 1% of the fresh water on Earth is accessible and available to humans, that's 0,007% of all the water on the Earth.

In certain parts of the world, people have to walk 5-10 miles a day to get clean drinking water.

" We never know the worth of water untill the wells run dry " -- Thomas Fuller

Not only just about water!

These day , technology development is growing so fast and uncontrolable.
There are technologies such as electricities which consume much of energy. And the Earth's energy is limited.
If we keep using energy prodigally, by 2035 we'll need another planet just like Earth to meet our energy demands.

Our CO2 emmissions have risen by one third in the last 20 years.
Between 1979 and 2007 artic summer sea extent reduced by 40%.
This is one of the causes of Climate Change.
Climate Change could drive one million of the world's species to extinction by 2050.

We're causing it .. so let's do something about it.. !

Change the way you think about everything!

Think about your morning latte.
How much water does it take to make one latte?

Along with the water you see a lot of other things in your latte use water in their production.. water.. lid.. cup and sleeve.. sugar.. milk.. coffee...
It takes 200 litres of water. That's more than 50 gallons just to make one latte.
Now, think about every person who drinks a latte every morning.
That's a big stress on the Earth's water supply.

But don't worry, we can change that.
And it doesn't mean taking away your morning latte.
It means changing the way we think about everything.

By changing how we farm and proccess coffee, we can produce more coffee using less water.
Imagine how much of the Earth's water we could save.

And it doesn't stop with saving water.

We can do more using less of all our natural resources, right now.
I believe our technology nowadays can make it possible.
Using our advanced and environmentally friendly technologies.

Now think about your business.
Think about water use, resource conservation, carbon reduction, risk management, and energy efficiency.
Do you know all the ways you could be doing more with less?
Change the way you think about everything!

- Earth's Health -

Have you ever thought that human health and the health of the planet are inextricably linked?
Why so many kind of diseases appear?
Why epidemic disease spreads widely?
Have you ever thought, it's because our planet has been sick beforehand ?

Why a deadly disease like malaria appeared?
Why an incurable disease like AIDS appeared?

The Earth is our home.
When we harm it, we harm ourselves.
How can you stay healthy if your home is extremely dirty and damaged?
It's impossible..

About 3 million hectares of forests are destroyed each year. Which will damages water sources,
erodes farmland, and makes it harder to find firewood.
Destroying forests can also make it easier for malaria-carrying mosquitoes to breed.
And it will cause the loss of biodiversity.

Enviromental change and ecosystem disruption can threaten the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, the medicines we take.

If the world's food supply are threaten, it will lead to malnutrition problems--which has happened in several countries these days.

Polluted water and air absolutely can cause human's health problems because of the chemicals contained in it.

Increases in parasites are caused by ecosystem disruption too. Which means disease-causing organism and disease-carrying organisms will increase.
AIDS is an example of a "new" disease that most likely resulted from host switching by a pathigen, when the virus leapt from green monkeys or other simians to humans.

Nature's pharmacy is the best medical treatments ever.
But what if the source of nature's pharmacy is gone? Ecosystem disruption cause the loss of the Earth's plants--especially the medical herbs.

It's clear that human well-being is directly connected to the way we treat the Earth's natural resources.
If we look after the planet, the planet will look after us.

So , start living harmony with the nature... !!
Keep the environment clean.
Save the energy and water by turning off the electricities and taps not in use.
Stop deforestation and endangered animals hunt.
And spread these habit to the others.

" One person has the power to make changes, but when we all come together we can change the world "

- Light Pollution-

Those are pictures of Light Pollutions that happens everynight.

Maybe some of you guys think that the word "Light Pollution" is weird to hear.
You can see at some countries especially in the big cities are exploiting light.

Why we call this as a pollution?
You can imagine if all area are exploiting light, the glow from the moon and the stars will lose its shine to the light from the earth. And it will cause disturbance , especially for animals that used to read the stars to migrate to a more condusive area to continue on with their life. In other words , if they can't see the star's light, they can't reach their destination and they can die if they can't do the migration. So, the population of that animals can be diminished dramatically and can trigger the other ecosystem clutters.

The light pollution also can cause the increasing of the temperature , which also one of the cause of global warming.
With the increasing temperature, the ice of the north pole will melt and the sea-levels will be rising.

To handle this, an idea has appeared -- Earth Hour .
In Earth Hour, we turn off the ligths at night for one hour . It will help us to reduce the light pollutions , and save the energy.
Just one hour without electicity isn't that hard, right? In that one hour, we can share our concern to the earth--our only beautiful planet.
From this one hour, we can turn it into our habit. A habit to save the energy. A habit to give attention to the environment. A habit to love the earth. : )

In March 26 2011, Earth Hour happened.
But i didn't see much of my neighbors participated in it. Honestly, I'm sad. Is it that hard just to turn off the lights?
But i just can believe, that i will share this habit if i participated in Earth Hour.
There's need one person to start the change isn't it? : )

- For Our Children -

As you see in the header of this blog ...

"We don't inherit the land of our ancetors,we borrow it from our children."

What came to your mind after read that..?
Have you realized what will you give to your children..?
Countless money? A castle? A successfull company?
Have you realized what's the most important thing that your children need?
It's our Earth ...

Your children need land to live ..
Your children need fresh air to live ...
Your children need clean water to live ...
Your children need our beautiful earth to live ... !

Can you see what happened to our earth...?
Global warming.
Rising sea levels.
Polutions everywhere.
Mass extinctions which 75% of the species on Earth disappear within a short time period.
35% of the world's mangroove forest has been lost in the last few decades.

We keep destroying the Earth..!
Then what will we give to our children?!

Can you imagine how your children cry because of they are in the generation where the Earth is in the critical damage condition?
Can you imagine your children blame you for the Earth's critical condition?
Can you imagine your children will fight with another for clean water?
Can you imagine your children will have harder life than yours?
Do you want all that happen to your children?

Then, what have you done so far?
You keep littering everywhere.
You keep contaminating the land, water, and air.
You keep cutting down and burning the forests.
You keep using energy prodigally.
You keep being SELFISH to the Earth... !!

It's not your land!
It's not your water!
It's not your air!
It's not your Earth!
It's OUR and OUR CHILDREN's Earth!

If the Earth destroyed, then where will we live?!
Have you found the other planets as beauty as the Earth?!
Have you found the other plantes as perfect as the Earth?!
Can't you be grateful for the Earth which the God gave you?!

Save our beautiful Earth !!
For us and our children !!
